Coming soon on August 1st, 2013 is a new Lego free-to-play MMO called “Legends of Chima Online”, which is based off of the Lego theme & Cartoon Network TV series of the same name. The game will be developed by WB Games Montréal, and has just completed its closed-beta-test & is now entering open-beta-testing. The upcoming Legends of Chima MMO is not the only massively multiplayer online game about Legos coming out, another MMO is being developed by Lego & game developing company Funcom, called “Lego Minifigures Online”, which is set to enter closed-beta in 3Q 2013, (3rd quarter of 2013). Lego Legends of Chima Online is said to allow players to choose their own Lego Legends of Chima tribe & animal warrior and help stop Cragger’s Croc Army. Players will be able to play with friends in a safe, fun Lego game environment and customize their own outposts to gain powers & abilities and unleash the power of Chi in fun, epic, & action-packed Lego battles.

The Lego Group has just released the teaser trailer for the upcoming original 3D-animated theatrical feature film, “The Lego Movie”, which is set to be released in theaters on the 7th of February, 2014 in North America. This movie will be the first-ever theatrical feature film made by the Lego Group, and stars Chris Pratt as Emmet, an ordinary minifigure who ends up on an amazing adventure with his friends, tough-as-nails Lucy (Elizabeth Banks), Vitruvius (Morgan Freeman), and the famous superhero, Batman (Will Arnett) to defeat an evil tyrant that threatens the entire Lego world. “The Lego Movie” will be produced by Dan Lin and Roy Lee, and will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Game developing company, Funcom, has been working with the Lego Group to create a new Lego MMOG (Massively Multiplayer Online Game) based off of the Lego Minifigures line of collectible Lego minifigures. The game is planned to launch in the first half of 2014, and a limited closed beta-test is set to begin in the third quarter of 2013. Funcom has announced the MMOG to be targeted towards children and will be promoted through the official Lego website, Lego.com, and other channels. The game is planned to include many cool features, including fun combat / fighting, classic Lego humor, PvP (player vs. player) battles, diverse & varied worlds, in-game “power bricks” allowing players to increase their character’s stats & power, boss enemies, and many other fun and interactive features. Funcom is currently working on a tablet version of the game, as well as integration with LEGO ID, and other back-end systems.
The contract between Funcom and Lego grants Funcom the rights to make an MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) and companion mobile apps based off of the Lego Minifigures series. It allows for development of the game on PC, Mac, iOS, Android, and Windows Mobile platforms. The contract’s territory is global and the term of the contract ends 3 years after the commercial launch of the Lego Minifigures MMOG, and can be renewed.

The new Lego Mindstorms EV3 system features the new EV3 Intelligent Brick, which is stronger, faster, and has more memory and a larger processor than the Lego Mindstorms NXT Intelligence Brick from the previous Lego Mindstorms platform, NXT 2.0. The new EV3 Intelligent Brick also features expanded on-brick programming, a USB port, an SD expansion port, and full iOS and Android compatibility, making room for even more robot-building possibilities! The new EV3 platform is more accessible and features a new infrared sensor, allowing for more control and personality for the robots you build!
When launched, the Lego Mindstorms EV3 robotics kit will include building instructions for 17 cool-looking, fun, and interactive robots you can build, including “Everstorm”, a cool humanoid robot that shoots balls as it walks; “Spiker”, a scorpion-like robot that searches for an infrared beacon “bug”, and a slithering, shaking robotic serpent called “Reptar” that might just strike at you! There is also a series of “modular builds”, which can be built in a short time and added onto with other parts so kids can begin playing and programming within minutes!
The product of 3 years of development, the Lego Mindstorms EV3 robotics kit will be released in the second half of 2013, for the suggested retail price of $349.99 USD. Next year, several cool new Lego themes are coming! One of the new themes is Lego Legends of Chima, a theme that takes place in a fantasy world of animal-people, and features a game called Speedorz, somewhat similar to the spinners of the Lego theme, Lego Ninjago. The theme will also have a TV series on Cartoon Network, also like Lego Ninjago, which also had a TV series, as well as an action figure line and handheld video game to be released later in the year. Happy 80th birthday, Lego! Yes, today on August 10th, 2012, the Lego Company turns 80 years old. Founded in 1932 by Ole Kirk Christiansen, the Lego comapny has gone on for over 80 years. The Lego company started as a wood-working shop in Billund, Denmark, but is now the 3rd largest toy manufacturer in the world. From the first Lego brick to the newest Lego theme, it’s been a great 80 years of building for Lego. To celebrate this occasion, we’ll be adding tons more fun content, and as soon as we can start adding sets you can buy to our selection, (we can’t right now due to technical issues) we’ll add lots of cool new sets from Lego themes like City, Ninjago, and Hero Factory! This year, Lego has released several new and exciting themes, many of which will have their products put here on ToyBrixandBlox.com soon! Here are the new themes for 2012:
- Lego Friends: This new Lego theme is made especially for girls, and centers around 6 main girl characters, and their city, Heartlake City. The theme features several new Lego brick colors, new mini-doll figures, and many new Lego parts and accessories.
- Lego DC Universe Superheroes: This new Lego theme is based around the comics and movies about the DC Universe heroes and villains, such as Batman, Superman, and the Joker. The theme also has a few ultrabuild action figures, which use the Lego Hero Factory building system.
- Lego Marvel Superheroes: This new Lego theme is based around the comics and movies about the Marvel superheroes and villains, such as Spiderman, the Hulk, and other superheroes and villains. This theme, like the DC Universe Superheroes theme, has a few ultrabuild action figures, also using the Lego Hero Factory building system.
- Lego the Lord of the Rings: This new Lego theme is based around the three Lord of the Rings movies, as well as the upcoming Hobbit movie.
- Lego Monster Fighters: This original Lego theme is the first of its kind, being the first Lego theme to center around monsters. The storyline is that the evil Lord Vampyre is planning to eclipse the sun forever using 6 moonstones, and the Lego Monster Fighters have to prevent him and all the other monsters from collecting the moonstones. The theme features many glow-in-the-dark parts, as well as many cool functions on the models, such as a hidden stairs or the moonstone device.
- Lego Dino: This Lego theme centers around several heroes trying to prevent rampaging dinosaurs from escaping to the city and causing havoc. The theme features large dino figures and big and small vehicles and a command base to capture the dinos and prevent them from getting to the city.
